In 2013, Jonghyun publicly showed his support towards the LGBT community. He had publicly supported a bisexual trans student by using one of the student's handwritten posters as his Twitter profile picture and quickly found himself under fire from ultra-conservative trolls. But that didn't stop him from voicing his support for gay rights whenever he had the opportunity.
He appreciated the differences which are inevitable in the world we live in, be it different opinions or different sexual interests.
Just like any other thing in the world, there's always two sides to everything. Apart from his great personality, Jonghyun has suffered from depression for a long time. He did his best to hang on all these years, from creating music, openly sharing his feelings whenever he had the chance to and by writing a book. Unfortunately he decided to end his suffering and commited suicide. He left messages through his sister and a good friend which explained the hard times he had. Jonghyun's death has opened the eyes of the public that he is not the only K-pop star who has suffered depression as an entertainer in a world full of glamorous lights .
All I want to say is... Depression is real, as real as our LGBT friends out there who have the right to be heard, as real as HIV/AIDS which could kill people. And we need to do something about all of it, we need to be the change in this world to make it a better place for everybody.
