I know it’s not the finest news to end a week, but it is very important. It occasionally happens that young people get bullied in school. And it also happens to young gay people. Research has proven that two thirds of young gay people have contemplated suicide because 80% of them are being bullied because of their sexuality. This are just numbers for the UK. Can you imagine the rest of the world?
To coincide with the International Day Against Homophobia we want to show you the new video 'We Exist' by Arcade Fire. In it, a young man, played by actor Andrew Garfield, is struggling with his gender identity and with coming out as a gay man to his father. A difficult story, told beautifully. I read a very interesting scientific article. I have to say, I didn’t understand any of the scientific stuff, but what I did understand is that an amazing 15 year old student invented a new HIV test. I am impressed and very thankful to this girl.
We are launching a campaign in support of Conchita Wurst and against homophobia. The last few weeks, there has been a lot of commotion and outrage expressed at Austria's candidate into Eurovision 2014, Conchita Wurst. A lot of people were not prepared to accept this unique person and because Conchita is a drag queen, to the point of accusing her of making Eurovision "A hot bed of sodomy", she even provoked protests… Let us show her our support and show them tolerance and accepting others is the way to go.
