During a raid on the ring, which allegedly forced teenage boys into sex work, Grindr was apparently discovered on the iPad of one of the perpetrators, leading police to believe that the app was involved.
Agung Setya, the police’s director of economic and special crimes said that the police so far found 18 different gay dating apps and have asked for the communications ministry to ban them.
He said authorities “hope that, with the authority the communications ministry has, it will make the right decision and impose a ban”.
I don't think it is the right decision, what do you guys think? The government should not blame an application for someone's criminal intentions, I don't think it makes sense at all. Because we all know that these applications were designed to help gay people meet other gay people in their area for dating, friendship and/or sexual encounters. The government should think this through and consider how much it will cost them in every aspect, because banning applications such as these means we retreat from civilization as we know it. Besides, will they ban straight dating apps such as Tinder next? Because we're pretty sure that many sex workers use this app to find customers.
