Brooke Ellis, a Falinge Park High School pupil, originally began complaining of pain in her back, but was sent home by doctors with a prescription for pain killers.
After her right leg became numb she was rushed to hospital, where doctors discovered a tumor. They rushed her to Salford Royal Hospital for a major operation.
They had to do radiotherapy in her brain as well, because when the surgeons removed the tumor they were worried parts may have been left in the spinal fluid and might have travelled to her head. This therapy meant she lost her hair.
Despite the trauma Brooke refused to give up on her exams and managed to achieve an A in art and in history.
She still has to walk with a stick and wears a back brace, but is determined to regain her mobility. Brooke Ellis got all A’s and B’s in her most recent exams, in the same week she was told that her treatment for cancer had been a success.
Let’s learn from this: despite everything that happens in our life, we have to be strong and fight for what matters to us. Your mindset is a mighty tool, so use it well!
