Gareng Vitello, a 33 years old man born who was born in Nganjuk, East Java is one of the people who lives with HIV/AIDS. That doesn't necessarily make him desperate. On the contrary: the trials that befell him encouraged Wijianto to do something meaningful for society.
The trip, called 'Step Foot, Domestic Roaming' carries the message "Prevent HIV transmission, support people who are infected". The solo trip itself started at the Work Studio Pelita Science Foundation in Jakarta, an institution that has 25 years of HIV/AIDS education experience and that provides psychosocial support for people living with HIV.
"The main purpose of this personal mission is to increase public awareness, vigilance about the prevention of HIV transmission and to reduce stigma and discrimination of people living with HIV," said Cah Gareng.
Cah Gareng said the trip will be start from Jakarta to the east, along the streets of Java, Bali, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Sumatra and back to Jakarta.
"Along the way, I'll spread of HIV/AIDS information in the form of leaflets and stickers, as well as having informal discussions with community groups (schools, colleges, communities)," said Wijianto, alias Cah Gareng.
We hope for the best, as his trip could possibly make a difference and make people realize that people with HIV/AIDS also matters.
